Fine painting depicting Old Cascinale, oil on panel, signed at lower right, shows a slight spinning to the panel that does not affect the painting.
Painting of excellent workmanship and pleasant production from life by the well-known Italian painter.
Giovanni Giani is the son of painter Giuseppe Giani, who introduced him to the study of painting from an early age, and Giuseppina Giani, a namesake but not a relative of Giuseppe.
From 1881 to 1886 he attended the Accademia Albertina, at which his father taught, taking the figure drawing course taught by Enrico Gamba and the painting course taught by Andrea Gastaldi. Despite this training, which was very much linked to academic and history painting, Giani's adherence to the verista current, which was to mark much of his production, is evident from his earliest works.
Throughout the 1990s, Giani devoted himself mainly to the study of the landscape and people of the Intelvi Valley, his father's place of origin, the Biellese area and the Aosta Valley.
