"Fireback "love That Flies Away" (81x81 Cm)"
Fireback from the 18th century, Louis She began to wander in search of him and had to complete various tests ordered by Venus, before Love pleaded their cause with Jupiter. The latter has Mercury summon the assembly of the Gods and decides that the marriage was a good thing. Psyche was made immortal, Love never strayed from this union and this marriage was indissoluble. From this wedding a little girl named Volupté was born. An abundant decoration of outstretched palm leaves, shells, foliage scrolls and grotesque-style faun masks frame the scene. With a complex composition and vigorously treated sculptures, this plaque offers an ornamental repertoire in the Louis XIV style. Our last photo, engraving by François Joulain (1697-1778), Love flies and the palace vanishes, Psyche, act IV scene 3, [1726], after a drawing by Charles-Antoine Coypel (1694 -1752). Provenance: INHA, Jacques Doucet collections, NUM OD 187 A crack should be noted on the right side. Its weight is 80 kg. A similar plaque is reproduced in the book by Henri Carpentier, Les Plaques de chemins, TI, Paris, 1967, p.129, n° 266. You can visit our site: www.claudeaugustin.com
