Object description :

"Pewter Bowl - Lyon, Mid-18th Century"

ECUELLE in pewter with console ears and moving lid with mushroom-shaped grip, with relief decoration of fleurons, foliage motifs and interlacing frieze on an amati background.
Hallmarking affixed to the two elements:
On the bowl
1°- control hallmark: FF crowned / DE LY(ON) / 1748.
2°- Hallmark of Michel Lazare Pierre FAVRE received master in 1749: FIN / griffon / LMP FAVRE
On the cover
1°- FIN / griffon / LMP FAVRE, incompletely affixed.
LYON, between 1748 and 1760

The control mark listed after that of 1748 is that of 1760. The latter allows us to limit the dating of this bowl. Very rare model from Lyon production, superb condition and quality.
Lyon's production was significant across the entire spectrum of the pewter industry, from goldsmith's objects to utilitarian objects. The very beautiful ewers and bowls, the so-called “cardinal” dishes, etc., often bear the hallmarks of the masters of this city.
