"Kabuto Samurai Helmet Japan Edo Period 1603-1868"
Japanese Kabuto from the Edo period in brown lacquer and ribbed with cylindrical brass reinforcement rods (32 slats) with fukigaeshi for ear protection, shikoro for neck protection going down to the shoulders in 5 articulated lacquer slats in suite with the helmet and fixed between them by blue silk lacing passing through holes in the slats. The top of the helmet's bomb is pierced with a hole surrounded by a thick brass eyelet decorated with three tiers engraved in red copper. Protection of the forehead is provided by a prominent visor (maezachi) retaining a central plume holder of rectangular section and extending onto the bomb of the kabuto. The external face of the visor is decorated with gold painted decorations, a brass visor ring runs along the edge of the visor, the blue canvas inner cap is present as well as a silk braided chin strap.
