"The Commercial Port Of Toulon Around 1930"
Beautiful oil on canvas representing the commercial port of Toulon in the 1920s, very recognizable with this statue in the middle of the quay, which all the people of Toulon affectionately nickname "ass to earth". This quay is today lined with large buildings from the 1950s, following post-war reconstruction. The work, on a large canvas, is solidly constructed with sobriety, in an atmosphere reminiscent of the rain, the deserted quay. The modern style of the touch is strongly reminiscent of Louis Robert Antral, an artist who produced paintings in the region, during a stay on the Mediterranean. This artist died in 1939. It is in very good original condition, and elegantly framed with its period frame, with "Mecca" gilding very matching the cold colors of the painter.
