Community dish of Abeillistes in Lomme (North of France).
Pewter dish from Rudo in Lille town, Maison Oudart, dated 1852. Inscription on the rim, around a character dressed as a Prior or Bishop, St Valentine PPN, stylized bees and two hives: "JBte Loeuil Roi des Abeilistes in Lomme 1852". On the bottom: "Valentine's Day PPN" (Pray for us). Valentine is often depicted with references to bees. For the Abeillists, bees are the link that binds the divine to the earthly, and this very ancient belief is found in various civilizations.
Good condition. The marli and the edge descend to bottom level.
