"Ger Lataster : “spring Made By Myself”"
Ger Lataster (1920-2012): “Spring made by myself”, mixed technique (oil, acrylic and silver paint) on canvas 150 x 140 cm, signed and dated 1977, titled on the back. Probably the most famous of the Dutch Abstract Expressionists. A grant from the French state in 1950 allowed him to come to Paris where he found his French roots and rub shoulders with artists like Pignon, Messagier or Picasso evolving over the years from an expressionist figuration towards an abstraction where the figure is nevertheless underlying that can be found in many international museums. This painting also comes from Paul Facchetti, a Parisian photographer and gallery owner who organized numerous exhibitions for him and its title tells us that, like this year, spring took time to arrive and that he decided to take matters into his own hands. and do it himself! Rigorously composed, this canvas suggests a fall of wisteria in a garden and reworked with the handle of the brush, the metallic paint gradually invading the canvas like a spring rain which reveals colors and smells...
