Magnificent and large Empire style fireplace, made out of a sophisticated Antico Verde marble. This exellent fireplace was made around 1860, the constructionperiod of the house 'Maison Gouverneur Dubonnaire in Mons-Belgium. It has detached, full round, tapered columns, rare because of the technical skills required of the craftsman. The green marble Antico Verde is beautiful enhanced by the fine Ormolu mounts. It's adding a classy distinction and raffinée. Ormolu is a gilding technique to an object of bronze. The Ormolu technique dates back for centuries, but was extensively used during the French Empire, reaching his peak during this period: 1804-1815. Craftsman principally used Ormolu for bright, non-oxidizing mountings on furniture, clocks, porcelain and marble fireplaces. Creating an elegant piece of work.
