"Painted Sheet Metal: Water And Coffee Stove Early 19th Century"
Beautiful model of table stove in painted sheet metal circa 1800, Austria or Germany? This stove could keep hot water according to the Samovar principle but also coffee with its double metal sieve filter. The cylindrical upper part has a cassolette-shaped lid as well as two side grips with lion heads holding a metal ring. On the lower part a strong metal tap fitted with a beautiful bronze valve. The square-shaped base is perforated with a frieze and equipped with a door on one side to access the cylindrical sheet metal brazier. This stove worked only with embers, the first principle of heating before alcohol stoves. Four pewter feet in the shape of a lion's paw. The whole remains in good condition, lacquered in black, enhanced with decaled golden friezes and two gray monochrome landscapes in an oval medallion. This decor on the theme of the Grand Tour of Europe shows two sites worthy of historical interest already for the time: The Tower of Oberwesel in the Rhineland and the Alhambra in Granada. (A long way to go between the two for young people from good families who wanted to complete their education). A little play on the cassolette, scattered wear to the paint, traces of rust inside but I nevertheless consider this everyday object in good condition. Note: quite rare to find complete with all these utensils. Delivery: €15 for mainland France.
