Well-made Indian box rug with a garden* or four-season motif inspired by Iranian rugs. We find patterns of 'boteh'**, 'weeping willow', vase... To make these rugs, we used a fine, soft and shiny wool which, thanks to the mercerization treatment, gave a silky appearance.
*The 'garden' or 'four seasons' motif which originated on Tabriz carpets during the Safavid dynasty (1501-1732), and more precisely during the reign of Shahs Abbas (1588-1629), is found on the 'bakthiar', 'ghoum' as well as on 'moud'.
**Boteh: Ancient motif with different meanings. It can represent the transformation of Zoroaster into a cypress, symbol of eternity, but also into a drop of water, into a palm, into a tree. The term boteh means "flowering bush" in Persian. There is a similarity with yin and yang.
