"Oil On Panel-signed-jean André Caverne-interrupted Reading-circa 1940"
RARE PAINTING BY BORDELAIS PAINTER JEAN ANDRÉ CAVERNE (1894-1968) INTERRUPTED READING Oil on panel Signed lower right With its pretty period frame 70 cm x 96 cm Jean-André Caverne, from a Bordeaux family, began at the Bordeaux School of Fine Arts. He would later be a professor there. Caverne painted in line with other Bordeaux Art Deco painters of the time: Jean Dupas, François-Maurice Roganeau, Albert Bégaud, Camille de Buzon, Jean Despujols. Numerous frescoes were then created by them, throughout the department and Bordeaux itself. If Caverne participates in the Salon of French Artists and Decorators, benefits from numerous orders from the state, it sees its success growing especially among the Bordeaux residents. His works can be found at the Bourse du Travail, the Chamber of Commerce, the Saint-Joseph Church, in Saint-Emilion, in Saint-Médard-en-Jalles, in Libourne… Our painting offers pastel tones in a languorous atmosphere and peaceful. Spring scene where the young woman leaning against a tree is interrupted in her reading by her child who gives her a bouquet of flowers that he has just picked for his mother. In the distance, some houses also seem to be asleep...
