A bold fragmentary alabaster relief of Christ carrying the cross.

Netherlandish, 16th century.

Measures 22 x 24 x 8cm.

This fine group from a series of the life of Christ was undoubtedly part of a grand altarpiece, possibly a victim of Henry VIII's reformation. The arm of Saint Veronica bearing her veil for Christ to wipe his face can be seen to the bottom right of the relief.
