Mainly recognized today by his painting work on porcelain and enamel. This is the portrait of Count de Montmorency (Mathieu de Montmorency-Laval) in 1818. Sitting in front of his library and holding a work by Hippocrates under his hand decorated with a large signet ring. Face, shirt, hand very finely made. Signed and dated lower left (see photo taken in transparency), visible from the front. Pretty period wooden frame, black with gold leaf trim, surrounding a window also with its black and gold painted border.
