"Luke Lauras VI : “grotesques”"
Luc Lauras VI (born in 1960): “Grotesques”, painting on canvas approximately 200 x 200 cm. Trained at the Beaux-Arts of Bordeaux, he is part of a neo-expressionist movement which finds echoes almost everywhere in Europe: Baselitz, Fetting, Salomé or Penck in Germany, Clemente or Chia in Italy, Garouste or Blais in France or Barcelo in Spain among many others, each finding a different way of expression, but with an obvious kinship, a painting that is visceral, strong, often colorful and rapid, which does not mean sloppy! He had numerous exhibitions both in France and abroad with works acquired by museums. The works that I am presenting to you today, coming from a workshop that he shared with Thierry Michelet whose works we are also presenting, were found more than 30 years ago at the Foire des Quinquonces: I had fallen in stop in front of those displayed on the front of two piles and after a brief negotiation, I bought the set before realizing that they did not fit in my truck! Never mind, the seller took them to me at the station and I sent them to my parents via Sernam. The problem being the difficulty of exhibition, I abandoned them until these days when I rented a large truck to repatriate them and photograph them before putting them on the Internet... The works date from the beginning of the 80s, are more or less square with a side of 186 to 216 cm, simple sheeting for some, panels for others, mounted on frames made with raw battens.
