"Charles Schneider (1881-1953) Rare Mushroom Glass Lamp C.1920, Gallé, Daum, Charder"
Rare and superb glass mushroom lamp by Charles Schneider circa 1918/1920, signature. He gold in the amphora on the foot. Total height: 43cm It is indeed a magnificent mushroom lamp in glass paste by Charles Schneider circa 1918/1920, the foot is fusiform in shape, in orange colored glass, the pedestal is in extra thick purple glass, the hat is made the same way but the colors are reversed; the frame is made of wrought iron. There are two lighting systems in the foot and in the cap, with small bayonet sockets, the wire and the switch are redone and modern. Lamp is in very good condition for its approximately 100 years, I just point out a tiny crack due to the tightening of the frame, but almost imperceptible, that's all. This lamp is guaranteed to be entirely original and authentic Charles Schneider (1881-1953) In 1898, he began his studies in Nancy, at Daum, which is a French Daum crystal company. He created, with his brother Ernest, “Le Verre français” or “Verreries Schneider”, a company founded in 1913 in Epinay-sur-Seine. Over time, the company became more and more successful until it had 500 employees under its wing in 1925, and sold their works all over the world. It was in 1929, at the start of the Great Depression, that the company became unstable, and fell a few years later. “Charder: French glass” is their trademark. It will be the largest glassworks in Europe in the 1920s and 1930s. Charles Schneider signs his family name on the most expensive and elaborate works, or “Charder” on those which meet strong market demand, especially in the United States and Argentina, which will become the first importers of “French Glass ". The latter developed during an artistic period called Art Deco. This movement was born following the First World War, aiming to forget its horrors. A rich and luxurious society appears, looking for furniture and art objects. The success of these two brothers comes first of all from their style, which developed during the Art Deco period which influenced their careful, colored glass (yellow, mauve, orange). Their glass is therefore modern, inspired by current artistic movements, cubism, futurism, through colors and lights. The glassworks manufacture its own raw materials, unlike its competitors (Gallé, Daum; Lalique, etc.) who buy them. Unlike the others, the Schneider brothers maintain artisanal manufacturing: each piece remains unique and keeps track of the worker. Charles Schneider remains the main character of the company: his brother is the manager.
