"Important Writing Commode In Precious Wood, Louis XVI – 18th Century"
Beautiful Louis XVI chest of drawers inlaid with precious wood, characterized by its raised front and its hidden writing space. This 18th century piece of furniture has two small side drawers in the upper part, the front of which is inlaid with rosewood surrounded by a net made of tinted wood and around it, worked diagonally, an alternation of lemon tree and amaranth. The perimeter of this composition is in mahogany arranged in a miter cut. These drawers open using chiseled ring handles with macaron and false entrance. In the upper center of this chest of drawers we find a long drawer that can be pulled out using a key with an original lock in working order. The facade inlaid with the same precious woods unfolds and reveals a writing space. This is made up of two drawers in rosewood and mahogany, decorated with lens buttons with rosette; and original black leather with its golden sticker. Below, this piece of furniture is completed by two large identical drawers joining together. These drawers have the same marquetry on the front as the upper drawers. They each have a bronze entrance and original lock. The key is later. This piece of furniture has a falling crosspiece in the lower part decorated with bronze trim and a lemon tree fillet on a rosewood background. The uprights of this chest of drawers are cut sides and inlaid with light wood and amaranth to create the illusion of grooves. The sheathed legs are also inlaid with alternating light and dark wood forming grooves. These feet end in a brass shoe. The sides of this piece of furniture are flat and composed of a horizontal rosewood veneer part in the upper part and vertical in the lower part. This veneer is surrounded by lemon and amaranth marquetry with a miter-cut mahogany frame. Finally, this chest of drawers is topped with thick original Sainte Anne des Pyrénées marble, with groove. The rear part and the bottoms of the drawers are in oak. ******** Period: 18th Century Excellent condition after restoration in our workshop. Original leather. Finish: Buffer varnish.
