19th century French school, architectural scene by Joseph dit Paul Paul Martin (1799- after 1861). Oil on canvas signedand dated 1857. Presented in a beautiful 19th century gold leaf gilt wood frame.

Our painting represents an imaginary city that grew in the painter's mind. Elements and buildings probably exist in different places ; they are gathered here by the painter in an original composition.

Beautiful, large painting, very decorative and evocative of the eclecticism during French Second Empire.
