Refined Italian painting from the 17th century. Great oil artwork on canvas depicting King David playing the harp among angels. This is a derivation of the painting by the Dutch master Hendrick ter Brugghen (1588-1629), among the major followers of Caravaggio together with Gerard van Honthorst and Dirck van Baburen (they were in fact called the Caravaggists of Utrecht). The King is portrayed as an old man playing his harp and with his gaze turned towards us he breaks the fourth wall thus making us participants in the scene. The rest of the composition is occupied by a choir of splendid angels who exalt the spiritual value of the King's music, in fact his songs are like prayers. Painting with great dynamism and notable pictorial quality, evident in particular in the extraordinary drapery of David's royal robes, with bright and iridescent colours. Large 20th century frame in carved and gilded wood, beautifully decorated, with some small defects and signs of aging (see photo). Painting that has undergone restoration with relining, replacement of the frame and restoration of color in some places (see photo). Overall in good state of conservation. Sight size H 109 x W 148 cm.
