A large canvas of rare beauty that excellently describes the surreal charm of Venice, with the monuments and boats reflected on the lagoon in a fantastic play of lights and colours.
It is the San Marco basin, the water space of the Venetian lagoon in front of Piazza San Marco. It is overlooked by the Piazzetta pier with the Palazzo Ducale, the columns of San Marco and San Todaro, the Marciana National Library, and the Punta della Dogana with the famous Chiesa della Salute, between the entrance of the Grand Canal and that of the Giudecca, ending with the distant view of the island of San Giorgio Maggiore.
It is considered the heart of the city, its most representative view and the Venetian scenery most depicted by the great master illustrators of the Serenissima.
The valuable painting, executed with great veduta technique, is to be included in the most beautiful and refined production of Venetian views created in the 19th century by the artists who continued with great effectiveness the extraordinary lesson of the Great Masters Francesco Guardi and Canaletto, from whom the Author draws all the pictorial peculiarities with exceptional luministic and chiaroscuro effects.
The sense of space and depth is notable, emphasized by the perfect perspective rendering of the series of buildings that converge in the focal point identified in a particularly successful manner in the Basilica of Santa Maria della Salute.
The miniaturistic description of the monuments is exceptional, but the perfect silhouette of the figures and boats that animate the spectacular view is worth mentioning.
The work is in excellent condition and is complete with the splendid, richly decorated and gilded original frame.
