Object description :

"Jean Rigaud Marine Painting ``lesconil Ciel d' Orage ´´"
42x38 for the frame 27x22 for the canvas Jean Rigaud, born June 15, 1912 in Bordeaux, has been a naval painter since 1950. He was a student of his father, Pierre Gaston Rigaud, and studied at the École des Beaux- Arts in Paris under the direction of André Devambez. Known for his ability to capture the dynamics of changing weather conditions, he is often considered the poet of changeable weather. Unlike some artists who prefer to depict violent storms or calm seas, Rigaud excels in the art of painting tumultuous skies, force five winds and force three seas. Rigaud has participated in numerous group exhibitions, notably at the Salon de la Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts, for which he is a member of the committee jury. He won a gold medal in 1937 at the Universal Exhibition in Paris, the Prix des Maritimes in 1952, the Prix du Maroc in 1953, and the Charles Cottet Prize in 1957. He was appointed painter of the Navy in 1956. Thanks to his distinctive technique, he managed to breathe vibrant life into his maritime landscapes. With his skillful and fluid touch, he animates scenes where the sails of the boats swell, the flags flap in the wind, and the tugboats and trawlers struggle against rough seas. His work is distinguished by the contrast between the joyful and lively movement of the ships and the melancholy of the skies, creating a visual tension that captures the admiration of the eyes and grips the hearts of the spectators. Rigaud is a 20th century artist who was able to mark his era with his unique and poetic vision of marine elements, making his works living and moving testimonies to the beauty and power of nature.
