Biography:
He was born in Algeria in Philippeville in 1917 to Italian emigrant parents and died in Argentat in 1994. Self-taught, he began painting at the age of 13 and at the age of 17 he already presented his first exhibition in his hometown. From Egypt to Syria then to Lebanon he ventured, but the Second World War caught up with him. He is mobilized then taken prisoner. He escapes, reaches France, arrives in Paris and sets down his brushes and easels in Montmartre which will very quickly captivate him. He “sketches” the places and curiosities, some of which no longer exist.
In this his painting, which can be described as living, is a testimony.
In 1945, he met the painter Maurice Utrillo who sponsored his first Parisian exhibitions, then the artist Jacqueline Thibaut who excelled in naïve art.
She will become the woman of his life and the mother of his four children. He saw success arrive in 1950 which he would not part with until the end of his life.
