"Breton Market, Signed M. Stevens. "
I have always really liked these works from the 1950s painted with a knife which sculpts and chisels the material. This Breton market will awaken memories in all lovers of Brittany, we have all known the tormented skies, with dark and threatening clouds, which in a gust of wind are chased away to make way for the blue of the sky. While contemplating this painting, in the hubbub of the market, I feel the spray on my face, the smells coming from the sea and the sound of the surf, the threatening sky makes us fear the arrival of a squall, it makes us hurry the step to leave the market and take shelter. There are many painters named Stevens listed and I have not been able to compare our painting to one or the other of these painters. Oil on canvas signed lower left M. Stevens. Frame dimensions 66 cm x 76 cm. View dimensions 50 cm x 60 cm.
