"Portuguese Table, 17th Century. "
This rosewood console table or desk table comes from Portugal. The belt opens with three drawers on one side, has three simulated drawers on the other and two false drawers on the sides. It rests on four turned wooden balusters, made up of discs and superimposed balls, resting on a short twist. The uprights, joined by twisted spacers, are fixed using brass screws. The drawers and false drawers are decorated with finely cut brass keyholes, it should be noted that the simulated drawers on the front were fitted with pull tassels identical to those of the drawers and that they have disappeared. A ceremonial table or desk, it can be placed in the middle of a room, it can also, placed against a wall, serve as a console to present and highlight precious objects such as porcelain dishes or pieces of goldwork. This piece of furniture has been preserved in its original condition. Similar tables are preserved and exhibited at the Royal Palace of Sintra. Fully removable, this table is assembled using bronze lag screws, four of these on the short sides have been replaced. Late 17th century period. Origin Portugal.
