Jean De Bologne (1529-1608) After, early 19th century Fragment of the famous flying mercury Serpentine marble Height 53 cm Height with base in Burgundy pink marble: 71 cm The work is a fragment of a larger sculpture representing the famous flying mercury. the work has been restored in several points as you can see in the photos. This fragmentary side and this serpentine marble gives us the impression of an antique. Serpentine marble sculptures are quite rare because this marble is difficult to carve. It nevertheless experienced its glory days at the beginning of the 19th century and made this sculpture a typical object of the grand tour.
