"Hippolyte Ballue (1820-1867), Royal Wedding, Oil On Canvas, Troubadour Style, Theater Costume"
Superb oil on canvas by Hippolyte BALLUE (1820-1867) representing a religious wedding scene in period costume. Perhaps the illustration of a royal or princely marriage at the time of Henry III? This very luminous canvas is signed lower left and has a great shimmer of colors. The background with the pillars of the nave, the statues and the stained glass windows are brilliantly suggested as are the costumes of the bride and groom and those of the guests. This painter, a student of DIAZ, participated in the Paris Salon from 1842 to 1851. His views of Paris, Sicily, Algeria, as well as his theater costumes, are painted in dazzling tones. He gives us a glimpse of it through this very beautiful canvas, which is equipped with a very beautiful old golden wand with pearls and stripes of hearts. Dimensions with frame: 38 x 52 cm.
