"Village Painting By Jacques Chevalier Between Figuration And Abstraction 1954 Format!"
Oil on canvas dated 1954 Dimensions: 137X138 cm Jacques Chevalier was born in Rouen in 1924. He attended the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in 1937. Influenced in his early days by Georges Rouault, he exhibited for the first time in Paris at the Foyers de la Culture Boulevard Haussmann. He met Georges Braque and other masters of the School of Paris on several occasions. In 1954, he exhibited his recent works at the Galerie Tronche and moved to Paris. In October 1955, he received a very good review on the occasion of his exhibition at the Galerie Duncan, rue de Seine then at the Galerie Mourgue. We find in his figurative work (notably the painting offered for sale) the influence of the School of Paris, His work oscillates between abstraction and figuration. The material on his canvases is so thick that it takes us back to plastic creation.
The paste is thick and rich in warm and cool nuances. The painting offered here is certainly a major work of the painter in its dimensions and the technique already very accomplished in 1954. He died in 1999. Due to the large serif, a few rare small chips.
Magnificent composition with a lot of strength
