Most frequently we find these blades on long swords called "khandas", or on certain "patas". the weapon that we present is a rarity, by the choice of a thin blade and rigid enough not to require the steel "rail" that is frequently found in the first third of European blades mounted in India (because considered too elastic).
The whole thing is elegant. It is a typical weapon of the Maratha Empire (state of Maharashtra) at the time of its greatness, first half of the 18th century.
BLADE: It is a double-edged European blade, with a diamond section. Two deep fullers on each side of the central edge, continuing up to half the length of the blade. The blade is oxidized, but its appearance could be greatly improved by polishing with sandpaper, although I preferred to leave it in its patina. We will note on the edges multiple small, very shallow scratches, less than half a millimeter deep, which are the history of this blade, and which I preferred to respect, but which can of course easily disappear with a little sharpening. .
Length of the blade = 81.5 cm width near the guard = 2.6 cm thickness near the guard 7.5 mm
HILT: it is made of bronze, finely chiseled with plant motifs It is extended to protect the beginning of the blade in an asymmetrical way, the outer mump being significantly longer than the inner one. The handle is attached to the blade according to the usual method, by a sort of blackish resinous paste and a copper riveting.
The pommel is disc-shaped. It is surmounted on its external face by a sort of chiseled capital, at the top of which a ring is fixed.
This weapon is very unusual, I have not come across another example in several decades.
