the round serpentine base is therefore gadrooned in a rotating movement.
it is hollowed out in the mass to receive two glass inkwells with necks garnished with a brass ring and two brass pen holders.
the wide grip lid is decorated with 5 lava stone cameos mounted in brass rods and representing the heads of Roman emperors and illustrious men.
