Spectacular Icon Of Easter And Christian Holidays, Palekh School, Russia 18th Century

Sumptuous composition bringing together 16 miniature icons representing the major festivals of Christianity, organized around a central subject representing Easter (Resurrection of Christ).
This exceptional and fascinating miniaturist painting dates from the second half of the 18th century -- around 1780/1800.
Its style, its palette, its extreme refinement, its meticulousness and its profusion of details allow us to attribute it to the famous iconographic school of Palekh, located northeast of Moscow in the region known as the “golden ring” . The small town of Palekh was in the 18th and 19th centuries a center of art and spirituality where some of the greatest iconographers of their time worked. Their masterpieces enriched the collections of the imperial court of the Romanovs, the great aristocracy and the high clergy. They are today kept in the largest Russian and international museums.
This icon is painted in warm tones with tempera (paint made from egg yolk and natural pigments) on a gilded wood panel.
The 17 scenes represent the Great Feasts of the Orthodox liturgical calendar including Easter, the Nativity, the Trinity, the Birth of the Virgin, the Annunciation, the Baptism of Christ and the Entry of Jesus into Jerusalem.
Very good original state of conservation. Small wear over time, cracks, splits and slight restorations to the pictorial layer.
