A highly fascinating and particularly evocative image which depicts little John the Baptist with the cross in his hand next to his inevitable companion, the Lamb of God. It is a highly emotional canvas which, thanks to the excellent chiaroscuro effects, creates an atmosphere characterized by a spiritual light full of pathos.

The Author manages to describe the Protagonist with quick brushstrokes and no frills but with extraordinary effectiveness so much so that he seems alive.

The place of the work in Emilian painting of the 17th century is evident and the juxtapositions to the portraits executed in one go by Annibale Carracci are very interesting.
