"Oil Lamp Decorated With Marine Creatures, Grand Tour, In The Spirit Of Antiquity "
Adorable large oil lamp, made of ceramic covered with a black glaze, imitating excavation objects. It dates from the 19th century, and it is carefully made to deceive (unless...). It is decorated on the top with a set of marine creatures in stamped decoration (octopus fish, shells) bestiary appreciated in antiquity. Black ceramics are classic in Apulia, and tourists in the 19th century were fond of real antique objects, or remarkably imitated by talented potters, eager to satisfy all desires. Note the sand, stuck to the desdin, to evoke the find.... very good condition.
