Object description :

"Rare Wine Pitcher - Lyon, 17th Century"

PICHET in pewter “in longitudinal cast iron”, with shoulder, quarter-round foot and cup and tasseled thumbscrew, decorated with turned fillets and baguettes.
Beautiful unpublished countermark on the interior background attributed to Durand RODDE received master around 1647 (died in 1706): large lily / two dolphins / DR
Height: 19.1 cm.
LYON, End of the 17th century


A small, almost invisible filling in was carried out on the shoulder.
Very Interesting pitcher, completely atypical for this center, probably manufactured for use outside the city.
This is a longitudinal casting in a two-piece mold, also known as "shell casting", a technique which will be abandoned at the end of the 17th century or at the beginning of the 18th century depending on the centers in favor of the technique of casting. radial cast iron in four-piece molds.
