This paper opener has gilded brass blade, pebbled, openworked and engraved with the inclusion of two small copper frogs, sealed in handle which has esoteric decoration on both sides in relief: 3 characters surround with their arms a hundreds-year-old tree, which contains a chapel for illuminated Buddha, a branched bird, coins and prayer garlands.
This tree, originally called Bodhimanda or Bo, occupies a particularly important place in Buddhist mythology…. Here, late 19th century, it would rather be the Anandabodhi representation, a clone tree around which pilgrims perform a triple circumambulation.
