Note cracks and restorations but the paint adheres very well to the canvas and it is in very good condition.
Magnificent masterful painting of two women in front of a river collecting flowers and grass.
The colors of mauve, green and pink are exquisitely soft. It’s a real favorite!

Philippe Parrot (1831-1894) 19th century. French.
Painter of genres, nudes, mythological scenes,
Born in the town of Excideuil in Dordogne in 1831, Philippe Parrot studied in Paris at the Swiss Academy where students corrected each other, without higher authority. He spent ten years at the Academy where Corot, Courbet, Manet, Monet etc. passed through.
From 1861 he exhibited his first large nudes, with such elegant poses, at the Salon.
In 1867 he traveled to Italy with Paul Dubois, also a painter, and brought back a new perspective on painting. From that moment he brought new colors, a new thought which led him to medals at the Salon in 1868, 1870 and 1872.
Often compared to Jean-Jacques Henner in his compositions, of these reclining red-haired women. He was also one of the artists in Sarah Bernhardt's entourage, whose full-length portrait he painted in 1875 (Paris, Comédie Française).
