Rare Baccarat square vase for Damon - Au Vase Étrusque, 20 boulevard Malesherbes with Japanese decoration of fleur-de-lys in cut crystal and gilded bronze ornamentation. The Japanese lily is associated with purity, innocence and natural beauty. Louis Damon's creations from the Art Nouveau period (between approximately 1889 and 1905) are relatively rare. This vase bears the signature Damon 20 Bd by Malesherbes. Born on February 15, 1860 in Saint-Germain-en-Laye, Antoine Louis Damon was only 27 years old when he purchased the store in 1887. Although the details of Louis Damon's artistic training are not known, his work proves that he is gifted with creative qualities, sound aesthetic judgment and that he is perfectly capable of exploiting his gifts. Like many of his colleagues, he added a decoration workshop to the store, designing and publishing his models himself. Louis Damon distributes a range of artistic glassware simply engraved with his brand, which he buys from various factories, including the Baccarat crystal factories. During the Universal Exhibition of 1900, his personal production was rewarded with a silver medal.
