Ethiopian Gurade saber, horn pommel, blade chiseled with foliage motifs, signed "by Warrant, Henry Wilkinson, Sword makers to King Edward VII, Henry Wilkinson Pall Mall London", below Ethiopian inscriptions, signed on the back of the blade Mohamedally & Co*, vintage late 19th century. This saber is in good general condition, see photos. The inscriptions and decorations on the blade are a little worn. This saber was most likely used during the first Italo-Ethiopian war known as the Abyssinian War (1885-1896). Note: the gilded bronze part on the pommel was added later, some traces of oxidation on the blade, wear and tear, look carefully at the photos. * Mohamedally & Co: main (Indian) trading company in Ethiopia before the Italian fascist invasion (1936).
