"Yvonne & René Maurel, Ceramic Pyxis "
René Maurel (1910-1986) ceramist graduated from the school of applied arts of Paris (1923-1926) as gilder-lacquerer he then joined the Academy of Grande Chaumière and in 1943 in Montpellier the school of ceramics of Fontcarrade. He moved to Golfe-Juan in 1945 and worked for Louis Giraud in 1945 before opening his own workshop with his wife, Yvonne Maurel.
"His pieces turned in red earth are dressed in brown before being enamelled. In fine and precise sgraffité decors, he develops characteristic motifs where geometric friezes alternate with figurative friezes".
