Persian bird bowl by Svend Bayer,circa XX. Svend Bayer is a Danish-British studio potter, born in 1946 in Uganda, who grew up in Tanganyika and discovered pottery while studying geography and economics at the University of Exeter from 1965 to 1968. Bayer took inspiration from the village ceramics of Southeast Asia, streamlining their practices and using his focus and determination to produce pots at high speed to fill his enormous kiln. His work is held in major collections around the world. He has received the John Ruskin Prize, held workshops around the world and had residencies in America and Australia.
