The composition with wildflowers was executed in the second half of the 19th century and is stylistically close to the works of the Belgian painter Jean-Baptiste Robie (1821-1910), who specialized in still lifes with flowers and fruit. He then painted seascapes, landscapes and oriental scenes based on his travels to the Middle East, India and Ceylon. He was also a writer who wrote about his travels in the Orient, an autobiographical essay and theoretical works on art.
