Raphaël Ponson (1835-1904) is an emblematic artist of Provencal painting of the end of the 19th century. His family circle awakened him to painting very early and at the age of 15, he attended the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Marseille, where he was a student of Emile Loubon (1809-1863) who introduced him to the work of nature. A lover of Provence, he works a lot in the South of France, particularly fond of the maritime landscapes in which he excels. Rocks, boats, fishermen, waves, always rendered with great accuracy in the treatment of light and colors. A recognized artist, he participates in numerous trade fairs and exhibitions.
