Katsushika Hokusai (1760-1849) - Japan's most famous woodcut artist. His best-known work is a series of ukiyo-e woodblock prints titled 36 Views of Mount Fuji, produced between 1826 and 1833. His art had a considerable influence on Japanese and Western artists, particularly the Impressionists and post- impressionists.
