"Pair Of Candlesticks With Dancing Putti From The Louis XVI Period"
Dimensions: H 29.5 cm x W 9 cm x D 9 cm

Pair of putti bronze candlesticks with brown patina standing on one foot.

They carry in their hands like jars, finely chiseled gilded bronze bins. The latter are figured at their base with foliage and topped with finely chiseled bobeches in turn.

The putti are dressed in a thin ribbon wrapping delicately around their body and leg.
At their feet is depicted in gilded bronze a festive lexicon of masks, ribbon, laurel wreath and musical instruments forming flutes and syrinxes

Both an attribute of music and a theatrical attribute, these representations emphasize the arched position of the putti, one of the feet raised, giving an effect of movement and dance.

The contrast of gilded bronze and patinated bronze accentuates the grace of their movement. They seem to twirl to the rhythm of the music.

Their cylindrical base in cherry red marble ends with a gilded bronze ring on a square plinth also in gilded bronze. They are topped with a gilded bronze capital forming a support for the putti.

Very beautiful work from the Louis XVI period in patinated, gilded bronze and cherry red marble.

This pair is remarkable for the elegance of the sculptures with rounded and graceful shapes, the figurations with the lexicon of the celebration and for their beautiful original gilding.
