"Levasseur Henri Louis - The Festival Of Flowers - Late 19th Century Bronze"
Bronze by Henri-Louis Levasseur, French sculptor and engraver of medals born in Paris. A student of Augustin-Alexandre Dumont, Jules Thomas and Eugène Delaplanche, he presented his works at the Salon from 1882. Many of them were later rewarded at the Salon des Artistes Français and at the Universal Exhibitions of 1889 and 1900. He notably created a bronze of Emperor Napoleon I on horseback, as well as a bust of the landscaper Théodore Rousseau for the facade of the Orangery in the Luxembourg Gardens. The subject entitled "The Festival of Flowers", refers to the allegory of renewed spring. It is a young woman brandishing 2 flowers in her hands, like a sower frolicking in a field, dressed in her long dress. The bronze has been electrified, a bulb comes out of each bouquet in his hands. The bulbs work.
