"Inès Esménard, Portrait Of Two Women From The Restoration Period"
Our painting represents two women, probably mother and daughter, sitting in a park, accompanied by their dog. They are very close to each other, physically and emotionally. Both are dressed the same way. The mother has placed her hand on her daughter's shoulder and looks at her full of tenderness. Her thoughts are still lost in the reading she has just interrupted. An intimate and romantic scene par excellence! The scene depicted is painted with great finesse, which is not surprising: A student of Jean François Hollier, Inès Esménard was also a miniaturist. The painting has its original canvas. This was restored in the sky next to the mother's head. Its gilded leaf frame is original. The painting is signed and dated 1837 on the right at the level of the mother's umbrella.
