Large oil on canvas, Buffalo surprised by a tiger, 19th century. This large painting dates from the second half of the 19th century, it represents a tiger pouncing on a watering buffalo. Made on a frame, this oil on canvas shows the work of Charles Verlat (active from 1844 to 1890) which is exhibited at the Toulouse museum (2004 inventory 1,199), Verlat's painting measuring 200 x 300 cm had been exhibited at the Salon from 1853, room 708. The painting is presented in its period frame in wood and gilded stucco with a motif of channels, pearls and stripes of hearts, with acanthus leaf spandrels, this gilded frame with gold leaf presents some gaps and wear. The painting, very faithful to the original, was executed during the Napoleon III period, it is in good condition, there are some old restorations, canvas, stretcher and original frame.
