This watercolor of Obernai represents a view from the entrance porch of a farmyard at the end of a cul-de-sac. It is animated by two characters. There is no trace of the point of view represented in any other work in the existing documentation, nor in the reference work ALL HANSI by Yannick Scheibling and Roland Muller published by Editions de la Nuée Bleue. Its dating in 1929, i.e. between the wars, marks Hansi's peak in his art. Appointed curator of the Unterlinden Museum in 1923, appeased after years of commitment to Alsace, Hansi refocused on the representation of daily life and was extremely meticulous in his productions, attaching great importance to the restitution of details. It is this maturity and serenity that we fully find in this work.
