"Bodhisattva Manjushri."
From his lotus throne, Manjushri, the bodhisattva of wisdom turns the wheel of dharma in the gesture of teaching. As a great teacher, he carries both the sword of knowledge (Prajna) and/or the manuscripts (sutras) of Buddhist teachings which bloom on lotus flowers along each of his arms. Like the lotus flower that emerges from the muddy waters where he sits, Manjushri cuts through ignorance to reveal a landscape free from the veil of ignorance. Her bejeweled outfit speaks to her noble achievements, and her ornate body contrasts with the simplicity of her contemplative face. Copper alloy, Tibet / Nepal around 1900.
