BIOGRAPHY
Franco Gentilini(Faenza 1909 - Rome 1981).
A keen observer of reality, Gentilini composed with an ironic, amused vein and a dreamy patheticism.
Gentilini's artistic world was formed in the context of Italian culture between World War II and the postwar period. The artist fine-tunes his well-known technique characterized by a happy combination of painting and drawing on a textured preparatory ground mixed with sand. The themes of his works are cathedrals, baptisteries, jugglers and street musicians, landscapes with irregular perspectives, women characterized by booties with spool heels, bicycles, trucks, cats and lions. Gentilini is the artist of joie de vivre, despite the fact that in these years he portrays a world shattered by World War II.
