"Pair Of Covered Vases Signed F. Barbedienne XIXth"
Pair of covered vases in Louis Openwork gilded bronze lid, revealing through transparency the sea green marble, topped with a cap delicately chiseled with twisted gadroons. Finely carved rockery handles with foliage and flower buds. They rest on openwork bases richly chiseled with foliage, flowers and climbing foliage, signed F.Barbedienne., Original gilding in very good condition, cleaned by our workshop (slight old restorations to the marble of the covers). We will notice the unusual signature of Ferdinand Barbedienne on Louis XV Style covered vases. ** Ferdinand Barbedienne (1810 - 1892) founded the House where he reproduced in bronze and in reduction a large number of sculpted works preserved in European Museums, his idea was to democratize Art. The themes chosen are often allegorical and draw largely from the Antique repertoire. The quality of the casting, the carving and the patina have gradually allowed the founder's signature to acquire his reputation.
