Object description :

"Attributed To Baccarat. Gold Enameled Crystal Sugar Bowl, Japanese Style, Circa 1880."
BACCARAT factory. Rare SUGAR DISH with a slightly curved shape, in translucent crystal blown and worked with a tool, displaying a very beautiful and interesting decoration of Japanese inspiration, painted with gold enamel (on body and lid), water lilies, flowers, insects and plants evolving in a lake environment. Golden net on the wing, as well as on the edges of the lid. The lid is topped with a grip button decorated with chiseled facets, which reflect the light, and is enriched with a golden star motif. Very beautiful and fine work from the Art Nouveau period, dating from the end of the 19th century, around 1880-1890. The decor, almost poetic, is particularly interesting: the motifs are very beautiful, and very well executed; the crystal - as always with Baccarat - is brilliant and translucent, with perfect purity. Old work, therefore unsigned (no signature), but definitely attributed to the BACCARAT Manufacture. Before 1936, in fact, Maison Baccarat did not put a signature on its pieces made from blown crystal. Here, the work is absolutely characteristic, whether it is the shape of the sugar bowl, the theme and quality of the decoration, the gilding... Everything, absolutely everything, refers to a Baccarat production. This is a beautiful and rare piece, both fine and, truly, qualitative and interesting. DIMENSIONS: - total height of the sugar bowl, with its lid, of 13.00 CM; - height of the sugar bowl without its lid, base only, of 07.50 CM; - diameter at the opening, 08.70 CM; - the maximum width of the sugar bowl is approximately 10.30 CM. CONDITION REPORT: the state of conservation is overall very good. There is no shine, no shock or accident, and the crystal has remained shiny, unaltered, without opacification. I note tiny and very timid marks of use, of no particular severity, hardly noticeable and in no way altering the object, nevertheless detailed below and illustrated by means of additional photos: - some slight scratches in the bottom of the sugar bowl, mainly inside. They are nevertheless fine, without much impact. Photos n°3, 4. - Likewise, some light and scattered scratches on the body of the object, but these scratches, again, are very little noticeable; they are weak, discreet, and in no way harm the interest of the object. I count around two or three. Photos n°5, 6. - some small gaps in gilding on the inside neck of the object, gaps visible when the cover is removed. These are not chips, and these gaps are again weak and few in number. Photos n°7, 8. The gilding of the decoration is, generally speaking, very well preserved; bright gold, beautiful and shiny. Overall, this sugar bowl is in excellent overall condition. The rare marks of use mentioned are faint and barely noticeable; They are completely normal, usual, on an object of this age. No shine - no particular wear - no accident.
